Servicing your stairlift

A stairlift provides invaluable independence, and many customers rely on theirs to stay active in their own homes. That’s why it’s crucial to have a stairlift service plan you can trust in case you encounter any issues.
A stairlift is a significant piece of engineering and, like a boiler or car, should be serviced annually to ensure it remains in optimal condition. Every new stairlift typically includes a two-year warranty that covers two free services—one each year, whether it is a stairlift for straight, curved, indoor or outdoor stairs.

How does warranty work?
Often, the first service is performed after the initial few months to confirm everything is functioning correctly and to make any necessary adjustments.
Reconditioned stairlifts should come with at least a one-year warranty, and a maintenance visit should be included as well.
Once your warranty expires, any reputable retailer or manufacturer can offer you a service contract tailored to your needs. A basic service package typically includes an annual checkup, priority access, and reduced rates for callouts, while a premium package typically covers parts and callouts during office hours and discounted rates for out-of-hours service.
Whether you decide to get a stairlift service contract or not, ensure you have access to a 24-hour, 365-day service so you can reach an engineer anytime if your request is urgent. Keep in mind that calls outside of regular business hours are often billed at a higher rate, so scheduling an office-hours visit can significantly lower your costs.
Anyone you invite into your home to service your lift should always be able to show ID, be properly qualified, and treat you with the utmost respect. They should also explain the costs and keep you updated on the progress.

Looking After Your Stairlift
Between services, it’s important to continue caring for your stairlift to keep it looking its best. Keep dust and dirt off your rail and upholstery by wiping them occasionally with a damp cloth.
With an annual service and some TLC now and then, your stairlift should provide trouble-free service for many years.
